Energy Costs

Dynamic Energy Tariff

A dynamic energy tariff follows market prices (EPEX Spot), where prices evolve hourly and vary daily.

At certain times of the day, prices are lower than at others. By setting the control mode to Minimize Costs, connected devices can be managed to optimize consumption based on cost efficiency.

Energy prices serve as the foundation for all cost optimization efforts (control mode: Minimize Costs). To ensure proper functionality, it is essential to enter the price parameters accurately.

In most cases, the formula used to determine the electricity price for consumption is as follows:

eSpot (€/kWh) × EPEX Spot Consumption Scaling Factor + Energy Consumption Price (€/kWh) + Network Consumption Costs (€/kWh)

Where:

  • eSpot: The hourly rate on the Day-Ahead EPEX SPOT Belgium market, expressed in €/kWh.
  • Scaling Factor and Energy Price (surcharge): These depend on the specific energy contract.
  • Network Consumption Costs: These are determined by the distribution network operator (DNO) and vary by region.

These price parameters can be configured in the app under Settings > Energy Cost Settings.

  • Select Dynamic Tariff (BE, NL, D).
  • Enter the Scaling Factor for EPEX SPOT Consumption, representing the adjustment relative to the EPEX Spot prices.
  • Specify the Energy Price Surcharge for Consumption in €/kWh.
  • Input the applicable Network Costs for Consumption per kWh, in €/kWh.

Examples

  • Engie Dynamic

    Before December 2024
    Price Formula for Consumption₁1 × EPEX DA + 11.02 €/MWh
