Grouping devices

Go to the "Groups" tab in the commissioning interface.

The grouping function allows you to schematically organize the devices as they are connected to the electrical groups in your building as shown in the first figure.

You can compare this with the single-wire diagram of your building.

Image 1

You need to do this so that the SmartgridOne Controller knows how everything is connected. It can for example take the maximum current of a group into account.

There are two configuration options:

  1. Simple groups (default)
  2. Advanced groups

Simple groups

Simple groups is the default option. With this option, the SmartgridOne Controller will automatically use the first energy meter you connect as the grid energy meter, and place all devices in one group. You can compare this to an installation with one energy meter and one distribution board.

For most installations, this is the recommended option.

You do not need to do anything when this option is enabled.

Advanced groups

Advanced groups can be used for more complex installations. Here you have complete freedom to configure how the electrical installation is structured.

When do I need advanced groups?

You do not need advanced groups if...
... you have a single energy meter and all devices connected straight to your main distribution board.

You may want to use advanced groups if...
... you have multiple energy meters and sub-metering
... you have a commercial or industrial installation with a need for separate load guarding of electrical groups.

note

When a new device is added, it will appear at the top level.

info

Only one item may appear at the top level (i.e., just below “distribution grid” of the installation), and it must be the energy meter of the grid, a group or a solar installation.

Creating a new group

  1. Choose "Create a new device group" from the dropdown menu.
  2. Choose a group name and type. The following types are available:
    • Switchboard (distribution board): This corresponds to an electrical distribution board.
    • Solar installation (PV installation): This corresponds to a group of PV inverters, and is specifically intended for monitoring PV installations.

Assigning an energy meter to a group or device

  1. Choose "Assign an energy meter to a device or a group" from the dropdown menu.
  2. Choose the energy meter you want to assign.
  3. Choose the group to which you want to assign it.
  4. Click on "Assign energy meter"
Do not add the energy meter you want to assign as the energy meter of a group as a member to the group!

Adding devices to a group

  1. Choose "Manage existing groups" from the dropdown menu.
  2. Choose the group to which you want to add devices.
  3. Select the device you want to add.
  4. Click on "Add member"

Adding a subgroup

  1. Create a new group as described in "Creating a new group"
  2. Choose "Manage existing groups" from the dropdown menu.
  3. Select the group to which you want to add the subgroup.
  4. Choose the subgroup you want to add.
  5. Click on "Add member"
